Why job applications ask you to retype your resume

8 October 2026 · Plumly team

You upload your resume. Then the application asks for your work history in separate boxes.

A resume upload and a completed application are different things. The file contains your experience, but the form has its own fields and questions.

The form wants separate answers

An application can ask for an employer, job title and dates in individual fields. Uploading a resume does not always fill those fields. Even when it does, it is worth checking that the answers match your resume.

Your resume cannot answer everything

Work authorization, notice period and consent questions need answers too. Those are not reasons to rewrite your experience, but they still need your attention before an application is ready.

What Plumly does

Plumly reads company job boards, ranks new roles against your resume, level and preferred places, and fills supported application forms from your profile.

When it cannot answer a question, it asks you. It keeps every answer and a picture of the form so you can check what it sent.

The goal is to spend less time repeating the details you already gave us, without treating an unanswered question as permission to guess.
